Dr Andrea Rodríguez-Prat, a researcher in the WeCare Chair, carried out a research stay at the University of Alberta (Edmonton, Canada) between December 2018 and May 2019.
During her stay, she worked with Dr Donna Wilson, professor in the Faculty of Nursing, president of the Alberta Palliative Care Hospice Association and an expert in research on the end of life, grief and ageing. During her time there, Andrea carried out a systematic revision of the concepts of autonomy and control in patients with advanced illness who express a desire to die. In addition, she also performed a qualitative study on the conversations between people with advanced illness and volunteers and completed an observational placement in the palliative care units at Grey Nuns Hospital and the Cross Cancer Institute, benchmarks of quality in the field of palliative care.
