As part of a new collaboration between the WeCare Chair and the Cicely Saunders Institute, two members of WeCare attended a two-day workshop held on 13 and 14 February 2020 at King’s College London, at the Cicely Saunders Institute. The workshop title was: ‘Outcome Measurement in Palliative Care with POS (Palliative Outcome Scale) Family of measures: towards patient-centred care, intervention, services and policy. It was divided into presentations targeting the various ways POS improves outcomes in clinical practice as well as reinforces the detection and reporting of change in research. The evidence presented highlighted the utility of POS both inside and outside palliative care; in populations ranging from frail, older patients and patients with dementia to pediatric patients. Each day also allowed for round table discussions, where the members of WeCare in attendance were able to contribute their own perspectives on the future of POS in terms of its application to research and clinical practice. Altogether, a wealth of information was shared to inspire future research and collaboration in support of the WeCare goals – improving quality of life at the end of life.
