The WeCare Chair was established in 2013 as a result of the collaboration between three institutions: UIC Barcelona, the Catalan Oncology Institute and Àltima.

Its mission is to contribute to the research into alleviating patients’ suffering and to attend to the needs of patients and their families in the field of advanced illness in order to offer practical solutions based on scientific results.

WeCare’s work focuses on three main areas:

  • Research: generating knowledge and promoting partnerships between national and international research groups to learn about and attend to the needs of end-of-life patients and their families.
  • Teaching: providing healthcare professionals with specific skills (during and after their formal studies) to address the complex subjects involved in the problems of end-of-life patients and their families and training young researchers to lead future studies in this field.
  • Knowledge Transfer: informing society and raising their awareness of this matter through educational activities.

WeCare’s vision is to be an international reference point for research into the needs of patients and relatives in the field of palliative care and knowledge transfer to clinical practice and society.
