The 11th International Workshop “Responding to the Desire to Die” features a group of renowned experts who, from various fields of health and the humanities, will share their knowledge to provide a comprehensive vision of end-of-life care. These professionals will offer their unique perspectives to help us better understand the needs of patients and their families during critical moments.
- Cristina Monforte-Royo: Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Faculty at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC) and co-director of the WeCare Chair. She holds a PhD in Nursing and is a leading figure in the field of palliative care and end-of-life research.
- Joaquim Julià-Torras: Doctor of Medicine and Head of the Palliative Care Department at the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) in Badalona. Director of the WeCare Chair, he brings extensive clinical experience in palliative care for patients with advanced diseases.
- Aleix Bonfill: Doctor of Philosophy and professor at La Salle – Universitat Ramon Llull. An expert in philosophy applied to palliative care, Bonfill will explore the spiritual constants of ill individuals and how these influence their experience at the end of life.
- Javier Rocafort: Adjunct physician in the Palliative Care Service at San Juan de Dios Hospital in Pamplona. Rocafort is a leading authority on clinical care in response to the desire to hasten death, and he will offer practical insights for medical responses in these situations.
- Marina Martínez: Psychologist in the Palliative Care Service at Clínica Universidad de Navarra. Martínez specializes in the emotional and psychological care of healthcare professionals, a key factor when working in high-pressure contexts such as the desire to hasten death.
- Miguel Ángel Cuervo: Physician at the University Hospital of Badajoz. Cuervo is a specialist in family care for patients expressing the desire to hasten death, offering tools to support loved ones through this delicate process.
- Albert Balaguer: Coordinator of the WeCare Chair and a leading figure in the field of palliative care in Catalonia. Balaguer has extensive experience in palliative care research and training, and he will present the conclusions of the workshop.
