The co-director of the WeCare Chair, Joaquim Julià-Torras, participated in the webinar organized by Clínica Cuides of the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya and the Spanish Society of Palliative Care (SECPAL), “Oncology and Palliative Care: From Transition to Integration.”
The webinar featured a presentation and moderation by the Medical Director of Cuides, Natalia de Iriarte, who explained the existing models of integration between palliative care services and medical oncology, emphasizing the results in quality of life and survival from shared care, as well as the challenges of early integration.
In the subsequent roundtable, Julià shared reflections with the Head of Palliative Care at Vall d’Hebron Hospital, Dr. Judit Serna; Dr. Elia Martínez, president of SECPAL; and Drs. Xavier González and José María Mazadico, oncologists from the Dr. Rosell Oncology Institute, Hospital Universitari General de Catalunya, and Hospital Universitari Mútua de Terrassa, respectively. During the roundtable, opinions were exchanged regarding barriers to the implementation of palliative care, particularly in the context of the necessary early intervention. It was also highlighted how the integration model must be adapted to each healthcare setting according to available resources and needs.
