Dídac Ballester, a renowned Valencian designer specializing in visual identity and editorial design, enthusiastically took on the challenge of creating the award for the Àltima Prizes, which honor outstanding work in the field of palliative care.
For Ballester, this commission was a unique opportunity to connect design with a deeply human cause, placing emphasis on both suffering and care.
In his own words: “It’s really something new, a different kind of work. A window opens to doubts, but also to opportunities. It remains a project related to human suffering, and design has a direct impact on people’s lives.” This mindset guided his creative process, as he aimed to craft a piece that was not only aesthetically appealing but also conveyed the value and dignity of palliative care.
With a career that includes collaborations with institutions such as the Generalitat Valenciana and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, as well as accolades like the Red Dot Award and multiple Laus awards, Ballester brings a distinct sensitivity to his projects. His ability to listen and understand clients’ needs, combined with a deep sense of empathy, is reflected in this award, which symbolizes recognition for those who dedicate their lives to caring for others in their most vulnerable moments.
The result is a piece that encapsulates the serenity, compassion, and humanism that define palliative care—becoming a tangible symbol of the dedication and commitment of professionals in this vital field.
