Professor Joaquim Limonero (UAB), a psychologist with a long career in palliative care research, presented several of his studies on suffering and emotional distress in patients at the end of life. These studies offer theoretical models and ways of assessing these phenomena.
His research group recently developed an instrument which can be easily used in clinical practice. This instrument allows healthcare professionals to obtain qualitative and quantitative data about patients’ distress and its possible causes. What’s more, within their research areas, they have worked in the assessment of suffering and emotional distress in family members and caregivers of patients in palliative care.
