On November 23, a working session was held between hematology and palliative care researchers to design a research project aimed at improving the care of patients with multiple myeloma.
The directors of the WeCare chair participated in the session: Dr. Josep Porta, Dr. Cristina Monforte, and the team’s researchers, Dr. Andrea Rodríguez, Dr. Iris Crespo, Dr. Denise Pergolizzi and Dr. Joaquim Julià. The predoctoral students of the Chair, Blanca Goñi-Fusté, and Blanca Corcoy also participated.
Dr. Irene Higginson and the person in charge of measurements at King’s College London, Dr. Mevhibe Hocaoglu participated from the Cicely Saunders Institute of King’s College, London, England. Dra. Anna Sureda, head of hematology service and benchmark in hematology at the international level participated in the Catalan Institute of Oncology. Dra. Beatriz García, hematologist and head of palliative care from the University Hospital of Getafe, Madrid, also participated.
Dr. Andrea Tendas participated from the Sant’Eugenio Hospital in Rome, Italy. Finally, Dr. Sally Moore, a hematologist at Oxford University Hospitals, participated.
A collaborative research project was designed, where the WeCare research group assumed responsibility for cross-culturally validating and adapting the Myeloma Multiple Palliative Outcome Scale (MyPOS) of the Cicely Saunders Institute. Currently, we are the researchers responsible for the cultural adaptation of this instrument. The doctoral student Blanca Corcoy will be responsible for carrying out this work as part of her doctoral thesis under the supervision of Dr. Cristina Monforte, Dr. Iris Crespo, and Dr. Denise Pergolizzi.
