On June 9, 10 and 11, 2022, the XIII International Congress of the Spanish Society of Palliative Care took place in Palma de Mallorca, attended by leading professionals in the field of palliative medicine.
The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Joaquim Julià Torras, Vice-President of SECPAL, Co-Director of the WeCare Chair and Head of the Palliative Care Service of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) in Badalona.
On the same day, Dr. Josep Porta, Senior Consultant of the WeCare Chair, moderated Table 2 entitled ‘Learning from other professionals: pediatricians, geriatricians and physiotherapists’, which discussed the ways in which these professionals can contribute in this area. In addition, Dr. Joaquim Julià Torras moderated Table 10 entitled ‘What’s new about the same’, in which factors such as pain, delirium or dyspnea were discussed.
On Friday, June 10, Dr. Andrea Rodríguez-Prat, Researcher of the WeCare Chair and professor at the Faculty of Humanities of UIC Barcelona, collaborated as a speaker in the session of communications 1, presenting ‘Autonomy and control in the desire to die in patients with advanced diseases: an integrative systematic review’. Likewise, Dr. Deborah Moreno Alonso, Head of the e-oncology program at the Institut Català d’Oncologia (ICO) and Researcher of the WeCare Chair, presented ‘Design and development of an e-health form for the multidimensional assessment of palliative care in a monographic cancer institute’ during communications session 3.
On Saturday, June 11, Dr. Josep Porta acted as a speaker at table 15 entitled ‘How to research in Palliative Care and not die trying…’, in which he spoke on ‘How to make a niche for PC research in research excellence’.
Dr. Denise Pergolizzi also attended the congress as a Postdoctoral Researcher of the WeCare Chair.
