Last Thursday, November 23, Blanca Goñi Fusté, researcher of the WeCare team, successfully defended her doctoral thesis entitled “Exploratory and consensus study of the assessment of patients’ needs in the first encounter in palliative care”, obtaining the distinction of “Excellent Cum Laude”.
The direction was in charge of Dr. Cristina Monforte Royo, Dr. Iris Crespo Martín and Dr. Denise Pergolizzi. The panel was composed of Dr. Agnès Calsina Berna as chair, Dr. Sandra Martins Pereira as member and Dr. Jesús González Barboteo as secretary.
The doctoral thesis is a compendium of three articles published in high impact journals (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37468050/ ; https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3742114 ; https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33648403/). The project consists of the design of a guide for a clinical interview (MAP) that systematically collects the needs of a patient in the first visit in Palliative Care. To this end, the doctoral student has used three methodologies (systematic review of the literature, qualitative interviews with professionals, patients and family, and the Delphi consensus method). The conclusion is that the needs to be evaluated by a palliative care professional are grouped into 6 dimensions and there are a total of 43.
Currently, the doctoral thesis project has continuity in the MAP multicenter feasibility study of which the analysis is being carried out and which is coordinated by the WeCare Chair.
