In the framework of the recent XVI International Conference of the Spanish Society of Palliative Care (SECPAL), held on October 20 and 21 at the Palacio de Congresos de Salamanca, a distinguished recognition was announced for Quim Julià, director of the WeCare Chair.
More than 700 palliative care professionals gathered at this momentous event, whose central theme was “Ethics in Palliative Care, everyone’s responsibility”. The conference featured a diverse program that addressed fundamental issues in this field, from common questions to more complex ethical aspects.
Quim Julià, recognized for his outstanding contribution to the field of palliative care, received the award for the best doctoral thesis in this discipline. His work, developed from the WeCare Chair, has stood out for its depth and relevance in the current context of palliative care.
The conference included pre-congress courses that addressed essential concepts in bioethics and their application in health care ethics committees. Among the topics highlighted were the relief of suffering, therapeutic obstinacy, the capacity and competence of patients in decision making, the response to social problems and the ethical impact of social networks in palliative care, among others.
